Do you know what makes these two engines stand apart? If not, we are here to help you. It can be a very tricky decision when purchasing a new Mustang if one does not know exactly what the difference is between the two.

The first to know when choosing between the 2.3L EcoBoost and the 5.0L GT is that they are geared and targeted towards two complete different markets. One can see this when comparing the price between the two cars. The EcoBoost is almost $10,000 lower than the GT starting at the MSRP price, but why is that?

The EcoBoost models have a revised version of the 2.3L four-cylinder EcoBoost engine which has an additional amount of torque compared to the Mustang model before it. Compared to GT Mustang models before 2011, the new 2018 EcoBoost Mustangs can easily out perform these with the 310 horsepower and the 350 lb-ft of torque. The research behind this engine has been thought over a lot by Ford. It has been considered to be one of the more reliable engines, but people still have a tough time deciding to invest in a four-cylinder,  high-strung cylinder engine. The engine has been used in three model years of the Mustang and aftermarket modifications have occured, making this Mustang powerful and yet the kind of vehicle for daily commute.

The GT models have been continuously improved by Ford and now have the all powerful 460 horsepower and 420 of torque. The V8 engine that lays under the hood is a dual-fuel, high pressure direct injection and low pressure port fuel injection system, which has been considered the first for a Mustang. This allows for more efficiency for both gas mileage and horsepower. The intake and exhaust valves are much larger as well compared to other models, allowing for an increase in flow for both fresh air and exhaust throughout the engine.

Each of these have their pros, but they also have cons. The EcoBoost has great power for only having a four cylinder, it's obviously much more affordable and has better fuel efficiency, and it also puts less stress on the engine when using it's Twin-Scroll Turbo for great power. But where is it's faults? This engine will lack the power of the GT V8 models, it will have noticeable turbo lag, and it lacks the fun engine sound and exhaust that is present in the more powerful models like the GT V8s.

As for the GT models, the pros of this engine is that it has the all powerful 460 horsepower, the ability to have the active valve performance exhaust, the ability to have the feature of "Quiet Start," option of the shorter 3.73 rear gears with manual GT Performance Package, and a manual transmission which is equipped with the GT's revised MT-82 with Dual Mass Flywheel and Twin Disc Clutch. The cons behind this engine is that it has a reduced Fuel Efficiency and it obviously is much more pricy.

So what it really comes down to when choosing the best Mustang for you is what are you looking for when you get behind the wheel of a Mustang. Are you looking for an affordable and reliable vehicle for your daily travels or are you looking for something that has the obvious power and thrill you have been craving?

These are the questions you have to ask yourself when searching for your next Mustang.
